Alleged Sale of Toshakhana Gifts by Imran Khan through Military Secretary

According to a report by The News, Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has reiterated his innocence in the Toshakhana gifts case.

He stated that he sold the gifts from the state repository through his military secretary, Brigadier Waseem Cheema, during his tenure as the Prime Minister.

The ex-prime minister, who is currently facing multiple criminal cases, asserted this statement during his deposition to an additional district and sessions judge in Islamabad, Mr. Humayun Dilawar, in accordance with Section 342 on Tuesday.

On October 21 of the previous year, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified the former prime minister in the Toshakhana reference based on Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution.

This disqualification was a result of the individual making false statements and incorrect declarations.

In his response to the court’s 35 questions, Khan stated that Brigadier Cheema plays a significant and pertinent role in this entire episode.

“I respectfully request that the court summon him to provide his testimony in relation to the case,” he petitioned the court.

When questioned by the court about his level of satisfaction with his responses, Khan responded affirmatively.

He stated that the court proceedings of the Toshakhana Gifts case were initiated based on political motives.

He claimed that both of the prosecution witnesses were under the influence of the government.

Prior to the conclusion of the court proceedings, Barrister Gohar requested a two-day extension to facilitate the presentation of witnesses.

“The list has not yet been prepared, therefore we require additional time to complete its preparation,” he stated.

Nevertheless, the legal representatives of the ECP expressed their opposition to the request for an extension of time.

On Tuesday, Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Accountability Court in Islamabad granted an extension to the interim bail of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Al-Qadir Trust case, which involves a sum of 190 million pounds.

The bail has been extended until August 4.

Previously, the legal representative of Imran informed the court that they have been regularly attending sessions court proceedings. He subsequently requested a postponement until August 12th.

Khwaja Haris expressed that he was unable to allocate time for his family due to his demanding schedule. He stated that his son arrived on the 23rd, and he has not had the opportunity to meet him yet.

The presiding judge indicated that Friday may be designated for the presentation of final arguments regarding the bail.

The Deputy Prosecutor of the National Accountability Bureau, Sardar Muzaffar, expressed his dissatisfaction with the frequent rescheduling of hearings.

Following an extension granted in the interim bail, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has also returned the mobile phone belonging to Imran Khan, which was previously confiscated during his period of detention.

The court adjourned the hearing temporarily until the arrival of the PTI chief and his wife.

The Deputy Prosecutor General of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) informed the court that the proceedings for the final arguments on the interim bail are scheduled to take place today.

“Prior to the arrival of the PTI chairman, it would be appropriate for the court to provide us with tea,” suggested Prosecutor Afzal Qureshi.

“We are able to provide you with tea, as per our standard offerings,” the judge stated, resulting in a burst of laughter throughout the courtroom.
